A Beaumont woman has filed suit against the driver who she claims ran a red light and struck her vehicle.
Debra Briggs claims she was driving north on Highway 380 at its intersection with Highway 90. As Briggs was approaching the intersection, she had a green light, according to the complaint filed Oct. 13 in Jefferson County District Court.
Suddenly, defendant Bob Schisler, who was driving east on Highway 90, ran a red light and struck her, the suit states.
Because of the accident, Briggs incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering and endured physical impairment, the complaint says. In addition, she claims she lost earnings, incurred property damages and suffered mental anguish.
Schisler negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to stop at an official traffic control device, failed to grant use of the intersection to Briggs and failed to enter the intersection only when it was safe to do so, according to the complaint.
In her complaint, Briggs is seeking damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the highest rate, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.
