Exploding gas tank results in suit

Winnie residents Francisco and Lauren Barrera have filed suit against Petrofuels Quality Marketing, claiming a gas tank explosion damaged their home.

The suit was filed Dec. 6 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the petition, on April 14 an oil tank situated on Petrofuels' premises exploded, causing damage to the couples' property when then tank lid struck their driveway, vehicle and home.

"Specifically, plaintiffs' property sustained damages to the roof, exterior and interior of the home, as well as structural damage," the suit states. "Defendant Petrofuels was negligent for allowing an explosion that caused damage to plaintiffs' property."

The suit further accuses the defendant of failing to act in a safe manner and of trespassing.

The Barreras are suing for punitive and actual damages.

They are represented by Beaumont attorney Michael Ramsey of the Mostyn Law Firm.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
