Anathasia Guidry is suing several area physicians and medical providers, claiming a botched kidney biopsy kept her in a Houston hospital for months and caused permanent disabilities.
The suit was filed Jan. 14 in Jefferson County District Court. The defendants listed in the suit include Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital, Beaumont Radiology Group, Dr. Ben Sueoka and Dr. George Aydelott.
According to the complaint, on Nov. 3, 2008, Guidry underwent a kidney biopsy performed by Dr. Sueoka, who allegedly caused a bile leak and right perineal hematoma during the procedure.
A week later, Dr. Aydelott preformed an ultrasound-guided paracentesis, which punctured Guidry's right inferior epigastric artery, she alleges.
"The conduct of Dr. Sueoka and Dr. Aydelott created multiple serious complications requiring extended medical care and treatment, and eventual transfer to a ... Houston hospital where Guidry remained hospitalized for several months," the suit states.
"She continues to have significant disability as a result of the negligence of these doctors."
The suit accuses the defendants of negligently failing to comply with the applicable standard of care.
Guidry is suing for her mental anguish, impairment, medical expenses and lost wages.
Her husband Ronnie, also a plaintiff in the suit, is suing for loss of consortium.
Beaumont attorney Clay Dugas represents the plaintiffs.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
