Dowlen Road crash subject of lawsuit

A Beaumont resident has filed suit against the driver who she claims failed to slow down and crashed into her vehicle.

Tanai Floyd claims she was driving south on Dowlen Road in Beaumont on March 25, 2009, when defendant Cody B. Allen suddenly failed to control his speed and struck her vehicle.

Because of the collision, Floyd incurred medical costs and experienced extreme physical pain, suffering, mental anguish, disfigurement and physical impairment, according to the complaint filed Jan. 10 in Jefferson County District Court.

Allen negligently failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to control his speed and drove inattentively, the suit states.

In addition to Allen, Floyd names Jeri L. Rainey as a defendant, saying he negligently entrusted his vehicle to Allen.

In her complaint, Floyd is seeking an unspecified judgment, plus interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.

James E. Payne, Jennifer Job Seale and Ronnie Turner Jr. of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.

Case No. A189-086
