Golden Triangle Living Center, Beaumont

A former employee of Golden Triangle Living Centers claims she was wrongfully terminated for reporting the alleged abuse of a handicapped patient.

Tiffany Hancock filed suit against the center Feb. 3 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to her petition, Hancock witnessed a co-worker "violently berating a mentally handicapped resident of the facility" during her employment with Golden Triangle Living.

Although the suit does not state when the incident occurred, Hancock claims she reported the verbal abuse and an investigation ensued, which determined the incident could not be verified.

Shortly afterwards, she received a termination letter from her supervisor, stating she was being fired "for reporting abuse which defendant determined to be unsubstantiated," the suit states.

Hancock is seeking to recover lost wages, mental anguish damages and exemplary damages, plus all court costs.

Kingwood attorney Davis Haines represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. E189-307
