State Farm sued for not paying underinsured motorist benefits

Area resident Evette Jackson has filed suit against State Farm Mutual Automobile Insurance and agent Neil Langford for allegedly refusing to pay underinsured motorist benefits.

The suit was filed Feb. 18 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show that on March 12, 2009, Jackson was traveling north on Highway 87 when an unknown, uninsured driver ran a stop sign and slammed into her vehicle.

Afterward, she made a claim to State Farm for underinsured motorist benefits, which was handled by agent Langford.

In her suit, Jackson alleges the defendants refused to pay at least a portion of her policy claim, breaching their contract and violating the Texas Insurance Code.

Jackson is suing for the damages she suffered in the collision, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Jonathan Juhan represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. E189-402
