Man alleges knee went through dashboard in auto collision

Area resident James Corkran has filed suit against Nederland resident Charles Lyon, alleging he made an unsafe lane change and caused an automobile collision.

The suit was filed Feb. 24 in Jefferson County District Court.

Court records show that on Nov. 20, 2009, Corkran was traveling north on South 27th Street in Nederland and had stopped in the inside lane to turn left into a parking lot when Lyon, who was traveling behind him, made an unsafe lane change.

Allegedly, Lyon struck another vehicle in the outside lane before veering into Corkran's vehicle.

"The impact was so forceful it caused plaintiff's right knee to (smash) through the dashboard," the suit states, adding that Lyon negligently failed to keep a proper lookout.

The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Beaumont attorney Larry Hunter of Provost Umphrey represents him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Case No. D189-446
