A total of five new lawsuits against insurance companies over Hurricane Ike damage claims were filed in Jefferson County District Court, Feb. 29-March 4, 2011.
The following complaints were filed:
LaTonya Marie Chapman of 4019 Heatherbrook Court in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association minimized her claim for damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. TWIA denied the claim after it hired Alltech Claims Management and adjuster Greg Brown to investigate, according to the complaint. Chapman will be represented by John Pat Parsons of Lindsay, Lindsay and Parsons in Beaumont and by Cade Bernsen of The Bernsen Law Firm in Beaumont. Michael Dorsey of 5047 Lakeside Drive in Port Arthur alleges Texas Windstorm Insurance Association minimized his claim for damages caused to his property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Dorsey will be represented by John Pat Parsons of Lindsay, Lindsay and Parsons in Beaumont and David Cade Bernsen of Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: D189-528.
Yvonne Frank of 2920 South St. in Beaumont alleges Texas Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company denied her claim for contents, foundation, structure, roof, water and wind damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Elizabeth Howell of 3390 Ridgeland Ave. in Beaumont alleges American Mercury Lloyd's Insurance Company minimized her claim for damages caused to her property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. She also names Owen's Corning Sales as a defendant, saying it provided shingles with adhesive that did not properly seal to the roof, causing extensive damages. Charles and Judy Maull of 8280 Anastasia Ave. in Beaumont allege Cypress Texas Lloyds denied their claim for damages caused to their property after Hurricane Ike struck on Sept. 13, 2008. Cypress Texas Lloyds denied the Maulls' claim after it hired Crawford and Company and adjuster Jim Verstuyft to investigate. The Maulls will be represented by John Pat Parsons of Lindsay, Lindsay and Parsons and by David Cade Bernson of The Bernson Law Firm in Beaumont. Jefferson County District Court case number: A189-478.
