Driver on wrong side of road blamed for wreck

Two Hardin County residents claim they incurred medical costs after a driver traveling on the wrong side of the road struck their vehicle.

Gary and Judith Butler filed a lawsuit March 14 in Jefferson County District Court against Maria Santillan.

The Butlers claim Gary Butler attempted to make a left turn from the 1400 block of Caldwell in Beaumont when Santillan, who drove on the wrong side of the road, struck their vehicle. At the time of the collision, Judith Butler rode as a passenger, according to the complaint.

In addition to their medical costs, the Butlers experienced pain and suffering, mental anguish, lost earnings and suffered physical impairment because of the accident, the suit states.

They blame Santillan for causing the collision, saying she negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to drive in a single lane and failed to apply her brakes.

In their complaint, the Butlers seek a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limit of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

Stewart M. Butler of The Butler Law Firm in Kountze will be representing them.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
