Suit alleges motorist collided with PA woman while making left turn

Laura Carter has filed suit against fellow Port Arthur resident, Francisco Hernandez, alleging the man hit her from behind while she slowed down to make a left turn.

The suit was filed March 22 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to her petition, on June 17, 2009, both Carter and Hernandez were traveling west in the 3300 block of Gulfway Drive in Port Arthur.

She signaled to make a left hand turn onto Sixth Street and had begun to slow down when Hernandez allegedly "failed to see her signal" and rear-ended her, the suit states.

The suit also accuses Hernandez of negligently failing to keep a proper lookout.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Port Arthur attorney Antoine Freeman represents her.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
