A Beaumont man has filed suit against the contractor who he claims failed to complete remodeling work on his home.

Hervis Levine Jr. claims on June 25 he hired defendant Mike Louvier to remodel his home. Initially, Levine paid Louvier $17,935 to begin work on the home, according to the complaint filed May 10 in Jefferson County District Court.

After Louvier received the initial payment, he and his family went on vacation, leaving Louvier's crew unsupervised to work on the home, the suit states.

"As of this date Defendant has completed about 50 percent of the remodeling job but has received 75 percent of the contract price," the complaint says. "Defendant has refused to complete the remodeling job."

In his complaint, Levine alleges breach of contract, violations of the Deceptive Trade Practices Act and recession of contract against Louvier.

Because of Louvier's failure to complete the work, Levine incurred property damages of $35,870 and sustained mental anguish, according to the complaint.

In his suit, Levine is seeking a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, attorney's fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.
