Suit filed after woman struck in parking lot

A Jefferson County woman and her husband claim the woman sustained neck and back injuries when a driver ran into her as she walked across a parking lot.

Dinah and Frederick Lewis filed a lawsuit July 8 in Jefferson County District Court against Glen Neil Larkin.

The Lewises allege Dinah Lewis exited her vehicle, which was parked in the parking lot at 5899 West Port Arthur Road in Port Arthur, on Jan. 12 when Larkin pulled off the road and struck her.

In addition to her injuries, Dinah Lewis incurred medical costs, experienced physical pain and suffering and sustained mental anguish, according to the complaint. Frederick Lewis lost wages because he was forced to take time off work to care for his wife, the suit states.

In their complaint, the Lewises blame Larkin for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to properly apply his brakes and drove too fast.

In their complaint, the Lewises seek damages within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate and other relief the court deems just.

John Pat Parsons of Lindsay, Lindsay and Parsons in Beaumont will be representing them.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
