A Beaumont judge granted Dawn Singleton's motion for default judgment on Tuesday, awarding the plaintiff more than $253,114.09 in damages.
As previously reported, Singleton filed suit against Dr. Darryl Harris and the Women's Center on Dec. 9, 2009, in Jefferson County District Court, alleging she continues to suffer physically because of medical negligence.
On June 30 Singleton filed a motion for default judgment, asserting that Dr. Harris never answered her claims.
Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th Judicial District, granted the motion after Dr. Harris failed to show for the Aug. 9 hearing, awarding Singleton $253,114.09 for her pain, mental anguish and medical expenses.
Court records show that on Sept. 25, 2007, Dr. Harris operated on Singleton at Memorial Hermann Baptist Beaumont Hospital.
The suit accused Dr. Harris of breaching the standard of care.
Houston attorney Craig Lewis represents Singleton.
