Judge's son sues over damaged BMW

The son of Beaumont Judge Bob Wortham is suing Iraj Afgani, doing business as Chase Motor Finance, for selling him a damaged BMW.

Robert J. Wortham Jr. filed the suit Aug. 4 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, Wortham purchased a 2006 S Series BMW from the defendant in October 2008.

"Unfortunately, the vehicle has previously been damaged," the suit states. "Defendant was aware that the vehicle has previously been damaged but concealed this information from plaintiff."

The suit accuses the defendant of common law fraud, arguing that Chase Motor sold the vehicle without disclosing the information.

Wortham is seeking actual, economic and exemplary damages.

Beaumont attorney Chris Portner of Portner Bond represents him.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
