Entergy's discovery motion granted in downed power line suit

Entergy's motion to compel discovery was recently granted in litigation brought by Shelly Conner, whose son, Quantae, mowed over a downed power line, causing electricity to course through his body.

The lawsuit, filed Feb. 2 in Jefferson County District Court, claims the power company's workers failed to repair the line following Hurricane Ike.

Court records show that on June 15 Entergy filed a motion to compel plaintiffs' responses to its interrogatories and requests for production.

The motion claims the Conners were served on April 5 but refuse to willingly respond to the discovery requests.

On June 24 Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, granted Entergy's motion, ordering the plaintiffs to respond, court papers say.

The suit states that on Feb. 21, 2009, Quantae rolled his father's lawn mower over a power line hidden by long grass while mowing the back yard of his Port Arthur home.

The shock was so bad he had to be rushed to the hospital, the suit states.

The plaintiffs contend Entergy had a duty to hire and train competent workers to repair the damage caused by Hurricane Ike.

Port Arthur attorney Antoine Freeman represents the plaintiffs.

Beaumont attorney Christine Kibbe represents Entergy.
