Suit alleges ship's wake damaged Sabine Pass property

The Sabine Pass Port Authority has filed suit against Gearbulk USA, alleging a wake caused by one of the company's ships damaged its property.

The suit was filed Aug. 23 in Jefferson County District Court.

The lawsuit accuses Gearbulk of failing to take steps to minimize the wake of its vessel the Kestrel Arrow.

The ship allegedly entered waters in and around SPPA at a high rate of speed and damaged the authority's property.

The suit does not state when the incident occurred.

The authority is alleging gross negligence and is suing for punitive and exemplary damages.

Port Arthur attorney Gordon Friesz of McPherson, Hughes, Bradley, Wimberley, Steele & Chatelain represents it.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.
