GALVESTON - An agreed motion for continuance has been entered into a Texas City woman's lawsuit alleging her doctors wrongfully removed her ovary.
According to court papers submitted Sept. 12 before the Galveston County 405th District Court, plaintiff Sheneice Stewart and defendant Dr. Harlan Wichelhaus request that the case be reset on the court's two-week docket in the spring of 2012. The case is currently set for trial beginning Oct. 17.
Stewart filed suit against Dr. Wichelhaus, Dr. Hemamalini Pilla and Dr. Michael Magliolo in March 2009, alleging a series of medical procedures between May 2005 and April 2008 caused her to suffer severe menopausal symptoms and lose her abilities to menstruate and reproduce.
The original petition explains that the physicians' apparent gross negligence and malice also cost the complainant her right fallopian tube and an ovary as well as the ability to produce estrogen, arguing that the respondents' diagnoses and actions were wrong and unnecessary.
Stewart, who was 29 at the time she took up legal action, says she suffered from hot flashes, depression, severe mood swings, insomnia, anhedonia, loss of appetite, and crying spells as a result of her ordeal.
Pilla and Magliolo have since been dismissed from the suit.
