Suit filed on behalf of minor injured in wreck

A Jefferson County man has filed suit against the driver of the vehicle who he claims struck the vehicle in which a minor was riding.

Jerry L. Fontenot filed a lawsuit on behalf of minor Jourdain L. Fontenot on Sept. 9 in Jefferson County District Court against Sean R. Cassell.

Jerry Fontenot claims Jourdain Fontenot was riding in a vehicle on Oct. 16, 2009, when Cassell struck it.

Because of the collision, Jourdain Fontenot incurred medical costs and experienced physical pain, suffering, mental anguish and physical impairment, according to the complaint.

Cassell negligently failed to exercise due care, keep a proper lookout, maintain proper control of the vehicle, obey a traffic control device and failed to swerve to avoid the collision, the suit states.

Jeffrey C. Chilton of Packard Lapray in Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.
