PU files petition to perpetuate testimony in possible benzene suit

Jefferson County resident Ruth Beeson has filed a petition to perpetuate the testimony of Robert Beeson, who suffers from cancer.

Through Provost Umphrey attorney Keith Hyde, the petition was filed Oct. 13 in Jefferson County District Court. The anticipated defendants in the pending suit are Chevron USA and Texaco.

According to the petition, Robert Beeson was diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma, which "is expected to progress" and prove fatal.

The petition does not say when he was diagnosed.

The petition seeks Beeson's testimony concerning his employment with Texaco and benzene exposure.

The petition requests the court authorize Beeson's video deposition.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.

Case No. B191-184
