Jesse and Cecelia Williams have filed suit against Cortez Car Care, alleging a mechanic used their Cadillac without permission and ended up wrecking the vehicle.
The suit was filed Nov. 8 in Jefferson County District Court. Jose Cortez Sr. and Jose Cortez Jr. are also named as defendants.
According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 7 the Williamses brought their 2000 Cadillac Deville to Cortez Car Care for repairs.
"While the vehicle was in the custody of defendants, the vehicle was used by Jose Cortez Jr. without permission and was involved in an automobile collision on Feb. 9, 2011, in Port Arthur," the suit states.
"The vehicle was totaled as a result of the collision."
The suit alleges that the defendants are guilty of deceptive trade practices.
The plaintiffs are suing for punitive and exemplary damages.
Attorney James Payne of the Beaumont law firm Provost Umphrey law firm represents them.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
