The Beaumont City Council got a blast of Cardinal spirit Tuesday when the Lamar University marching band and cheerleaders attended the council's regular meeting for the reading of a proclamation declaring Oct. 8-13 as "Get Your Red On" Week for Lamar Homecoming 2012.
Lamar University President James Simmons accepted the proclamation on behalf of the school.
Scheduled events include a student dodge ball tournament, the annual Greeks vs. Faculty basketball game and a campus clean-up event honoring the legacy of LU’s alumni.
At 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 12, there will be a pep rally and bonfire, located at University Drive and Jim Gilligan Way. The pep rally will feature performances by the LU cheerleaders and dance team and an appearance by the LU mascot, Big Red.
On game day, Saturday, Oct. 13, students will show their support for the Cardinal football team during the “Walk of Champions.” Starting at 4:30 p.m. at the Dining Hall, President Simmons and Beaumont Mayor Becky Ames will join students to cheer on the football team as they make their way across campus to Provost Umphrey Stadium. Kickoff for the Homecoming game against McMurry is 7 p.m.
