Brent Coon & Associates attorney added to breach of contract case

Kanayan

A Brent Coon & Associates attorney was recently added a suit brought by a Georgia doctor alleging a Southeast Texas eye care provider owes her more than $50,000 she earned while working for him.

According to the complaint, filed Jan. 18 in Jefferson County District Court, Dr. Essene C. Bell, an ophthalmologist, worked for defendant Dr. Raj K. Singla at the Singla Eye Institute.

Alex Mabry of The Mabry Law Firm in Houston filed the suit on her behalf.

On March 2 a notice of appearance was filed in the case, stating that BCA attorney Philip Kanayan enters his appearance as additional counsel for the plaintiff.

The suit states Bell was earning $108 per hour in a 40-hour workweek at the time of her departure from the company.

In addition, she was supposed to receive a bonus of 30 percent for any direct patient services revenue she generated of more than $550,000 per year, according to the lawsuit.

Court records show that on April 30, Bell submitted her resignation to Singla, but she was not paid what she had earned.

"Over the employment period, Defendant (a) failed to pay Dr. Bell her base pay for Wednesdays; (b) failed to pay Dr. Bell in full for the remaining 32 hours of base pay per week she was owed; (c ) failed to provide Dr. Bell with an accounting of the direct patient services revenue generated by her for the practice; and (d) failed to pay Dr. Bell all of the bonus owed to her on the direct patient services revenue she generated," the suit states.

Bell is seeking all the missing compensation she claims she was not paid, plus direct damages, pre- and post-judgment interest, attorney's fees, costs and other relief the court deems just.

The case is assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
