A notice to intention to take deposition has been filed in a Jones Act suit and seeks information from Wal-Mart's legal department.
As previously reported, Kountze resident Robert Slott filed suit against Gulf States Dredging on Nov. 14 in Jefferson County District Court for injuries he received from a barge wench.
The notice to deposition by written questions was filed by the plaintiff on March 26 and seeks the deposition of custodian of records for Wal-Mart Legal Department, Pharmacy and Pharmacy Billing Ltd.
The lawsuit alleges that on Aug. 21 Slott was serving aboard a vessel owned by Gulf States Dredging and claims he was "injured when the wench was engaged while attempting to move the barge in Beaumont on the Neches River."
In his suit, Slott alleges the defendant failed to provide him with a safe workplace.
He is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Houston attorney Deborah Busby of Spencer Crain Cubbage Healy & McNamara represents the defendant.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
