Beaumont police officer Ronnie Freeman is suing Entergy Texas, alleging the power company failed to secure the area after a motorist struck an electrical pole, causing an explosion and a power line to fall and strike him.
The petition was filed April 27 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the petition, on May 12, 2010, officer Freeman responded to a collision at Harrison and 11th Street in Beaumont. Entergy also responded since a pole suspending electrical lines had been struck.
While directing traffic, and explosion occurred, causing an electrical line to fall and strike Freeman.
The suit alleges Entergy negligently failed to barricade the site and warn the officer of the danger.
The plaintiff is suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
