Stop sign runner sued for causing wreck

Beaumont local Veronica Smith is suing Duane Sibley Jr., a Port Neches resident, for allegedly running a stop sign and causing a collision.

The suit was filed May 14 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Oct. 31, 2011, Smith was traveling east on Seventh Street in Port Arthur when Sibley, who was traveling north on DeQueen Boulevard, failed to obey a stop sign and struck her vehicle, causing serious injury to her left knee.

The incident was caused by the defendant's negligence, the suit alleges.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.

Houston attorney Richard Schechter represents her.

Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
