Friendswood woman sues over shoddy floor installation

GALVESTON - Friendswood local Nancy Lauritsen has filed suit over what she claims to be improper floor installation at her residence.

A lawsuit filed July 20 in Galveston County District Court claims Custom Hardwood & Tile Installations, LLC put in bamboo flooring which allegedly buckled and revealed discoloring.

Lauritsen had the flooring in question installed in her office, den, dining room and bedrooms.

"Several months after installation, Lauritsen discovered that the bamboo floor was buckling and separating from the concrete subsurface in the office," the suit says.

Court papers add repairs were made to the flooring in the office, however the plaintiff found multiple areas of discoloration in said flooring and other hollow spots where it was not properly adhered to the concrete subsurface.

"The defendant failed to properly mix the cement float that was utilized to level the concrete substrate," the original petition says.

"By failing to mix the concrete substrate properly, the float became very soft and fragile due to the excessive moisture in the foundation which was known to Custom Hardwood prior to installation."

Brenda and Pierre Fournier, the respondent's president and vice president respectively, are also being sued for misrepresenting the quality and character of the services provided.

The complainant consequently seeks unspecified monetary damages and a jury trial.

She is represented by attorney Richard M. Grimes III with Grimes & Fertitta P.C. in Houston.

Galveston County 10th District Court Judge David Garner is presiding over the case.
