A bank claims a Beaumont man has defaulted on a loan and owes the bank more than $30,000.

Compass Bank claims it loaned defendant Jeffrey Kethley $50,000 on Jan. 24, 2008. Since then, Kethley stopped making his required monthly payments, according to the complaint filed Aug. 29 in Jefferson County District Court.

“After all payments and credits are allowed, there is a balance past due and owing of $33,785.03, plus accrued interest in an amount not less than $3,319.91 as of July 10, 2012, with interest continuing to accrue at the rate of 6 percent or $5.63084 per diem, for a total as of July 10, 2012, of $37,104.94,” the suit states.

In addition to the money it says it is owed, Compass Bank is seeking no less than $25,000 if the case is appealed, post-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, costs and other relief the court deems just.

It will be represented by William P. Huttenbach of Hirsch and Westheimer in Houston.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
