Driver failed to obey light, according to court documents

Redlight

A Nederland woman claims she suffered neck and right shoulder injuries after a driver failed to stop at a red light and struck her vehicle.

Kaylan Leigh Arendale filed a lawsuit Oct. 15 in Jefferson County District Court against Yessica Marlen Sifuentes.

Arendale claims she drove east in the 700 block of Magnolia in Beaumont on Jan. 4, 2011, when Sifuentes, who drove north on Magnolia, failed to stop at a red light and struck Arendale in the middle of the intersection.

Because of the collision, Arendale sustained neck and right shoulder injuries; incurred medical costs; and suffered mental anguish, physical pain, suffering and disability, according to the complaint. She also lost her enjoyment of life, suffered physical impairment and lost wages, the suit states.

Sifuentes negligently failed to maintain control of her vehicle, failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to timely apply her brakes, drove in an unsafe manner, drove inattentively, followed too closely and disregarded a stop-and-go signal, the complaint says.

In her complaint, Arendale is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.

Jane S. Leger of Provost and Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont will be representing her.

The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.

Case No. E193-357
