Woman falls while stepping off elevated booth, sues Suga’s

While stepping down from an elevated booth at Suga’s, Delores Balbon fell.

On Nov. 15 she filed suit against Suga’s Deep South Cuisine & Jazz Bar in Jefferson County District Court, seeking to recover damages for her alleged injuries.

According to the lawsuit, on June 9, 2011 Balbon was dining at Suga’s in Beaumont. When she got up from the elevated booth, the step was wet and she slipped and fell.

The suit accuses Suga’s of negligently failing to safeguard her against the dangerous condition.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment and lost wages.

Beaumont attorney Tom Oxford of Waldman Smallwood represents her.

Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, is assigned to the case.
