The mother of a minor boy has filed suit against the driver who she claims struck the vehicle in which her son was riding, causing him to sustain neck, back and body injuries.
Christy Valka claims her son, Philip Richardson was riding in a vehicle traveling north in the northbound lane in the 5300 block of Concord Road on Dec. 16 when defendant Thuy van Nguyen, who was driving south in the northbound lane, struck the vehicle head-on.
In addition to Richardson’s injuries, he suffered severe pain, endured medical treatment and lost his ability to work and perform some daily living activities, according to the complaint filed Nov. 15 in Jefferson County District Court.
Nguyen negligently crossed the center dividing lane of the road, failed to maintain control of his vehicle, drove inattentively, drove while distracted and failed to drive within a single lane, the suit states.
In her complaint, Valka is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus costs, pre- and post-judgment interest and other relief the court deems just.
Clay Dugas and Reggie Blakeley of Beaumont will be representing her.
The case has been assigned to Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court.
