Area resident Eric Marroquin has filed a slip-and-fall lawsuit against Home Depot Inc.
The suit was filed Nov. 19 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on Sept. 12 Marroquin was at Home Depot in Beaumont when he fell because of slick floor, sustaining unspecified injuries.
The suit does not state how he fell or why the floor was slick at the time of the incident.
The suit only accuses Home Depot of negligently failing to inspect and maintain the floor and warn him of the dangerous condition.
Marroquin believes he is entitled to exemplary damages due to the “magnitude of potential harm” the condition presented and the defendant’s “conscious indifference to the rights” and safety of others.
The plaintiff is also suing for his alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages.
Provost Umphrey attorney Paul Ferguson Jr. of Beaumont represents him.
Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, is assigned to the case.
