A Beaumont man has filed suit against the driver who he claims followed his vehicle too closely, causing a rear-end collision.
Richard Lee Glenn claims he was driving a 2002 Toyota Corolla north in the 5800 block of Major Drive on Jan. 4, 2011, when he entered the right-turn connector at FM 364 and State Highway 105.
As he slowed to yield the right-of-way to oncoming traffic, Glenn was struck from behind by defendant Rocio Gonzales, who was driving a 2003 Cadillac Escalade, according to the complaint filed Jan. 3 in Jefferson County District Court.
Because of the collision, Glenn suffered head, neck, back and body injuries; incurred medical costs; experienced physical pain and suffering; and endured physical impairment, the suit states. He also lost his earnings and suffered mental anguish, the complaint says.
Glenn blames Gonzales for causing the collision, saying he negligently failed to keep a proper lookout, failed to keep a safe distance between his vehicle and Glenn’s, failed to control his speed and failed to timely apply his brakes.
In his complaint, Glenn is seeking a judgment within the jurisdictional limits of Jefferson County District Court, plus pre-judgment interest at the maximum rate allowed by law, post-judgment interest at the legal rate, costs and other relief the court deems just.
Stephen A. Taggart of Nederland will be representing him.
The case has been assigned to Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court.
