Shopper trips over unsecured rug, sues Market Basket

Beaumont locals Edrena and Vincent Guillory are suing Market Basket for alleged injuries Edrena suffered when she tripped over an unsecured rug at the grocery store two years ago.

The suit was filed Feb. 5 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, on Feb. 6, 2011, Edrena was shopping at the Market Basket off of Major Drive in Beaumont. As she was exiting the store and following the bag boy pushing her cart, she tripped and fell over an unsecured rug that had caught her foot.

The suit accuses Market Basket of negligently failing to inspect and maintain the flooring area and warn shoppers of the dangers.

Edrena is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages.

Vincent is seeking damages for his loss of consortium.

Beaumont attorney Brett Thomas of Roebuck & Thomas represents them.

Judge Gary Sanderson, 6oth District Court, is assigned to the case.

Case No. B193-895
