A suit filed locally by Alice Sorrells, who claims she was injured when the limo in which she was riding rear-ended the hearse in front of her, has been transferred to Washington County.
As previously reported, Sorrells filed suit against the limo driver, Robert Lewis, and Lewis Funeral Home on March 22, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court.
Court records show that on April 30 the defendants filed a motion to transfer venue, arguing that the incident took place in Washington County.
On June 15 Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, granted the motion, transferring the case to Washington County.
The lawsuit states that on Oct. 8, 2011, Sorrells was a passenger in a Lincoln limo driven by Lewis during a funeral procession. They were traveling eastbound in the 1200 block of 290 West when Lewis rear-ended the hearse in front of them, causing a major collision.
The suit alleges Lewis negligently failed to control his rate of speed and keep a proper lookout.
The funeral home is sued under the legal doctrine Respondeat Superior.
The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages, plus all court costs.
Port Arthur attorney Langston Adams represents her.
