A local physician has reached a settlement in a medical malpractice claim.
As previously reported, individually and on behalf of her child, Trasanda Lofton filed suit against Dr. William Hawkins on Feb. 3, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court.
A month later, a final judgment was entered in the case on March 29, 2012, stating that the parties had announced to the court that a settlement had been reached, court papers say.
According to the lawsuit, on Nov. 2, 2009, Lofton and her child, identified only as T.L., were injured as a result of Dr. Hawkins’ alleged negligence.
The suit does not state when or how the plaintiffs’ injuries occurred, nor does the suit list a specific act of negligence.
According to the website vitals.com, Dr. William N. Hawkins is a male with 18 years of medical experience and practices in obstetrics and gynecology in Beaumont.
The plaintiffs were suing for their mental and physical anguish.
Attorney Michael McGown of the Beaumont law firm Beckenstein, Norvell & Nathan law firm represented them.
Judge Milton Shuffield, 136th District Court, presided over the case.
