A man has filed suit against the city of Beaumont, saying it retaliated against him for his attempt to reveal contaminated land.
J.J. Reyes claims he was a supervisor in the street department in Beaumont when he reported an oil contamination of public property being cleared for a public park. In turn, Beaumont enacted “adverse actions” on Reyes, according to the complaint filed March 15 in Jefferson County District Court.
Reyes does not specify the type of adverse actions Beaumont placed on him, but is asking to be returned to his job as supervisor. He also says Beaumont’s action violated his Constitutional rights.
In addition to asking the court to reinstate him to his previous position, Reyes is seeking attorneys’ fees.
He will be represented by Larry Watts and Ike Okorafor of Watts and Associates in Missouri City.
The case has been assigned to Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court.
