HOUSTON - A Harris County man claims his employer disciplined him because of his race and seeks damages.
Christopher Alexander Glover's lawsuit, filed April 4 in the Houston Division of the Southern District of Texas, targets Roy Jorgensen Associates Inc. for alleged racial discrimination at the workplace that culminated in the business suspending Glover.
Court papers show the plaintiff began to experience harassment for his African American heritage in February 2010, asserting management was "disrespectful toward minority employees."
The original petition alleges that the same employees would "routinely" be subjected to racial jokes and slurs, threatened with knives and denied advancement opportunities.
"The plaintiff noticed that black employees were being less favorably with respect to promotions and other terms and conditions of employment," it says.
Glover adds his superiors placed him on the receiving end of mistreatment when he complained about the supposed discrimination as well as the requirements and considerations for promotion.
According to the complainant, another black employee was told "a promotion would never happen because of his race."
Glover's grievances were apparently not taken seriously, and on April 13, 2012, the respondent suspended him.
He has since resigned from the company.
A jury trial is requested.
