Summer Place Nursing & Rehabilitation has filed suit against a former patient, Michael Dugas, seeking to recover a debt of more than $38,000.
The suit was filed June 17 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on May 14, 2012, Dugas entered into a contract to be admitted to Summer Place.
In June 2012 he defaulted under the terms of the contract by failing to pay his incurred costs, totaling $28,291.61 (which will increase to $40,248.68 if Medicaid denies his claims), the suit states.
Summer Place is suing for actual damages, court costs and attorney’s fees.
Austin attorney Jesse Butler of Thompson, Coe, Cousins & Irons represents the plaintiff.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, is assigned to the case.
