Discovery is proceeding in a suit brought by the owner of a fishing dock, who sued the owners of a ship that crashed into the dock.
According to the complaint filed April 17, 2012, in Jefferson County District Court, Khang T. Bui claims the motor vessel, King Yukon, collided with the fishing vessels Captain Scott, Little Angel and Lucky Aaron and struck the dock Bui owned.
The defendant Eastern Cross Shipping owned the King Yukon while defendant Aboitiz Jebsen managed the ship and defendant Sabine Pilot Service operated it.
Court records show that on May a certificate of discovery was filed in the case, showing that Eastern Cross served the plaintiff with its first set of requests for production, admission and interrogatories.
Bui lost earnings and incurred property damages because of the incident, the suit states.
He blames the defendants for allowing the incident to occur, saying their ship’s captain negligently failed to control speed, failed to maintain a proper lookout, failed to avoid a collision with another vessel and failed to drive the ship in a safe manner.
Bui is seeking actual and exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
David P. Wilson of Provost Umphrey Law Firm in Beaumont represents him.
Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court, is presiding over the case.
