Woman asks court to approve 'friendly' lawsuit

A woman is asking the court to approve a “friendly” lawsuit she filed against a woman who she claims struck her son while backing out of a driveway.

LaQuechia Mims filed a lawsuit July 10 in Jefferson County District Court against Rhonda Rigsby.

In her complaint, Mims alleges Rigsby struck her minor son, Phabian Jarvis Watson Jr., while backing out of a driveway on Dec. 21 in Jefferson County.

Mims and Rigsby attempted to resolve their dispute on their own and have come to a tentative agreement of an unspecified settlement, according to the complaint.

In her complaint, Mims is asking the court to recover actual damages if she is unable to settle her differences with Rigsby before a final trial on the proposed settlement.

Mims, of Beaumont, will be appearing pro se.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, has been assigned to the case.

Jefferson County District Court case number: E194-525.
