A man claims he suffered physical pain and mental anguish after a group of drivers caused a multi-car collision.
Joseph Ruben filed a lawsuit July 31 in Jefferson County District Court against Michael Glenn Sinclair, Rhonda Renfro, Glenn Renfro, Dan Steward and Craig Harrell.
In his complaint, Ruben alleges he rode in a vehicle traveling north in the 4700 block of U.S. Highway 69 in Port Arthur when Sinclair, Steward and Harrell collided with each other, causing a chain reaction collision that eventually collided with the rear of the vehicle in which Ruben was riding.
In addition to his physical pain and mental anguish, Ruben experienced physical impairment and incurred medical costs, according to the complaint.
Ruben blames Sinclair, Steward and Harrell for causing the collision, saying they negligently failed to control their speed, followed the vehicle in which he was riding too closely, failed to maintain a safe distance between their vehicles and those in front of them, failed to timely apply their brakes and failed to maintain a proper lookout.
He also names the Renfros as defendants, saying they allowed Sinclair to borrow their vehicle even though they knew him to be a careless, reckless and incompetent driver.
In his complaint, Ruben seeks actual and exemplary damages, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.
Charlton P. Hornsby of Beaumont will be representing him.
Judge Bob Wortham, 58th District Court, has been assigned to the case.
