Woman fumbling for dropped object causes crash, suit alleges

While fumbling for a dropped object in her vehicle, Whitney Hashaw rear-ended Emily Harper, a recent lawsuit alleges.

Harper filed suit against Hashaw on Sept. 3 in Jefferson County District Court.

According to the lawsuit, the collision occurred on Sept. 28, 2011. Claiming she was bending over to pick up an object that she had dropped, Hashaw allegedly rear-ended Harper near the intersection at Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway and E. Elgie Street in Beaumont.

The suit accuses the defendant of negligently of failing to maintain a proper lookout, apply her brakes in a timely manner and control her rate of speed.

The plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain, impairment, disfigurement and lost wages.

She is represented by the Houston Law Offices of Stephen C. Estes.

Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
