Transit driver blamed for causing collision

A Jefferson County resident has filed suit against Beaumont Municipal Transit, alleging a transit vehicle struck his, causing him to sustain injuries. 

Rickey Earnest Jr. claims he was riding in a vehicle on Feb. 2, 2012, when it was struck by a vehicle operated by Beaumont Municipal Transit and being driven by defendant Gregory Kemp.

Because of the collision, Earnest suffered injuries, lost wages and his earning capacity, incurred medical costs and experienced physical pain and mental anguish, according to the complaint filed Sept. 13 in Jefferson County District Court. He also endured physical impairment, the suit states.

In his complaint, Earnest is seeking a judgment in excess of the minimum jurisdictional limits of the court, plus pre- and post-judgment interest, costs and other relief the court deems just.

Curtis W. Leister of Reaud, Morgan and Quinn in Beaumont will be representing him.

The case has been assigned to Judge Gary Sanderson, 60th District Court.
