A Jefferson County woman sues her employer after falling while taking out the trash.

Emma Young filed suit against Atwood Oceanics Inc., Aramark Corp. and Aramark US Offshore Services on Aug. 8 in Jefferson Parish District Court. The defendants removed the case to the Eastern District of Texas, Beaumont Division on Oct. 4.

The incident occurred on May 10 while Young was employed by Aramark and was assigned to the Atwood Condor, a semi-submersible oil drilling rig. She states she sustained serious injuries to her back when she fell while moving the trash.

The defendants are accused of negligence for failing to properly supervise their crew, failing to properly train their employees, failing to provide adequate safety equipment, operating the vessel with an inadequate crew, failing to provide a safe work environment and for failing to maintain the vessel.

Defendant Aramark is accused of negligence for failing to inspect the vessel, failing to provide a safe work place and for the failure to train its employees.

The plaintiff is seeking an award of damages for physical pain, mental anguish, physical impairment, discomfort, mental anguish, distress, loss of earnings, loss of earning capacity, medical expenses, maintenance and cure, punitive damages, attorney’s fees, interest and court costs.

Young is represented by Jason A. Itkin, Cory D. Itkin and Noah M. Wexler of Arnold & Itkin LLP in Houston. A jury trial is requested.

U.S. District Judge Ron Clark is assigned to the case.
