Beaumont resident Sheryl Johnson has filed an automobile collision suit against Big M Transportation and its driver, Billy Ray Shows.
The suit was filed Oct. 17 in Jefferson County District Court.
According to the lawsuit, on Dec. 22, 2012, Johnson was a passenger in a vehicle traveling on Interstate 10 when Shows abruptly pulled in front of her vehicle and slowed his tractor-trailer rig in an effort not to miss his upcoming exit.
As a result, the vehicle Johnson was riding in struck the back of rig. Immediately following the collision, Shows fled the scene, according to the suit. Police later identified him at a truck stop in Vidor, the suit says.
The suit faults Shows with driving his vehicle in a reckless and careless manner and further faults Big M with negligent entrustment.
On top of exemplary damages, the plaintiff is suing for her alleged past and future medical expenses, mental anguish, pain and impairment.
Pampa attorney Ross Bussard of Buzzard Law Firm represents her.
Judge Donald Floyd, 172nd District Court, is assigned to the case.
