Local woman blames cab driver for recent wreck

GALVESTON - An alleged two-vehicle accident between a local woman and a cab driver has resulted in a lawsuit.

Andrea M. Sanchez is suing Galveston local Raymond L. Turner, claiming he caused said accident in Galveston on Nov. 15.

Turner's employer, Yellow Cab Co. of Galveston, is also a defendant in the suit, which was filed Dec. 23 in Galveston County District Court.

Sanchez was traveling westbound on Broadway while Turner drove southbound on 24th Street just prior to the subject wreck.

Court papers state that the defendant failed to yield the right-of-way at the intersection of Broadway and 24th and "struck the passenger's side of the plaintiff's vehicle."

Turner is accused of:

  • Speeding;

  • Failing to apply the brakes;

  • Failing to keep a proper lookout;

  • Failing to keep the vehicle under control; and

  • Driver inattention.

Consequently, Sanchez seeks $200,000 in damages.

She is represented by attorney Frederick L. McGuire of the Law Office of Frederick L. McGuire in Liberty.

The case has been assigned to Galveston County 122nd District Court Judge John Ellisor.
