Matthew Matheny, an attorney with Beaumont's Provost Umphrey Law Firm, has been named to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 Under 40.

The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 under 40 is a professional organization composed of the top trial lawyers from each state or regions of certain highly-populated states who are younger than the age of 40.

Membership into The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 under 40 is by invitation only and is extended exclusively to those trial lawyers practicing civil plaintiff and/or criminal defense law.

Invitees must exemplify superior qualifications, trial results, and leadership as a young lawyer under the age of 40. Selection is based on a thorough multi-phase process which includes peer nominations combined with third-party research.

Matheny, a non-equity partner at Provost Umphrey, is Board Certified in Personal Injury Trial Law. Matheny primarily handles personal injury cases, and he currently serves as primary counsel in the NFL Concussion Litigation on behalf of the firm.

In addition to The National Trial Lawyers: Top 40 Under 40, Matheny has been named a Texas Rising Star by Thomson Reuters four times. He has also received the AV Preeminent Peer Review Rating by Martindale-Hubbell, the highest possible rating in both legal ability and ethical standards.

Matheny graduated from the Baylor University School of Law in Waco and received his undergraduate degree in History from Rhodes College in Memphis, Tenn.

Locally, Matheny volunteers with student mock trial and teen court programs, orphaned and abused children's groups, nature conservancy organizations, and actively support civic activities and Lamar University events.
