Marathon Petroleum sued after worker injured in explosion

A Galveston County resident is suing after sustaining injuries while working.


Oscar Garcia filed a lawsuit Feb. 27 in the Galveston County Court against Marathon Petroleum Co. LP, citing negligence and gross negligence.

The complaint states on Feb. 21, Garcia was working for Wyatt Field Services at Marathon’s Texas City refinery. While de-isolating a flare line, an explosion erupted, severely burning Garcia, according to the complaint.

The complaint says the plaintiff remains in critical care at the Blocker Burn Unit at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston.

Garcia is seeking an undisclosed amount in damages.

The plaintiff is being represented in the case by attorneys Anthony G. Buzbee and Daniel Wilson of The Buzbee Law Firm.
