AUSTIN (Legal Newsline) – In response to a new Republican PAC targeting women voters, Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, the Democratic nominee for governor, is making sure female voters are aware Attorney General Greg Abbott defended Prairie View A&M in an equal pay lawsuit filed by a woman.
RedState Women went online Wednesday. The PAC’s website, redstatewomen.com, first greets surfers with a video of Texas Railroad Commissioner Christi Craddick, a Republican, discussing her life and career in politics.
The same day RedState Women launched, Davis unleashed a flurry of tweets, arguing that if Abbott “cared about equal pay for equal work for Texans, he wouldn’t be defending unequal pay in court.”
The tweet links a Dallas News article in which Davis cites a case where Abbott represented Prairie View A&M in an unequal pay suit. A female professor claimed she had the right to sue over unequal pay, even though she did not file the claim within 180 days of when the discrimination started as required by state law.
The Office of Texas Attorney General often represents state entities in civil litigation.
“We know that a full day’s work is worth a full day’s pay, no matter your gender,” Davis said in a tweet. “(Abbott) just doesn’t care.”
A Davis spokesperson, Zac Petkanas, also got in on the Twitter action, tweeting yesterday that it’s “no wonder a new GOP PAC is hitting panic button in Texas” after Abbott campaigned with a “sex predator” and “fought equal pay for women.”
Petkanas’ tweet refers to Abbott campaigning with rock star Ted Nugent.
