A Texas woman is suing over claims she sustained injuries after receiving negligent care while in a Christus hospital.

Reyna Turner filed a lawsuit March 21 in the Jefferson County District Court against Christus Health Southeast Texas, doing business as Christus St. Mary Hospital, Dr. Barry R. Miller and Port Arthur Surgical Association, citing medical malpractice.

According to the suit, Turner underwent laparoscopic surgery by defendant Dr. Miller at Christus St. Mary Hospital in Port Arthur on May 9. Turner alleges that as Dr. Miller was closing the surgical site, part of the suture needle broke off and fell into Turner's abdomen.

Turner alleges that Dr. Miller was unable to recover the needle, so he left it and sent Turner home to recover. She claims she experienced severe swelling and pain and had to have a second surgery to remove the needle.

Turner is seeking damages, interest and court costs.

She is being represented in the case by attorneys Tommy R. Hastings and Gregory L. Feste of Hastings Law Firm P.C.
